Cardinal Zone Provides After-School Activities

by Josh Miller

August 13, 2007

Crete Public Schools and the City of Crete have teamed up to provide an after-school program of activities for children in grades 6-8.  The Cardinal Zone premiered at Crete Middle School on Monday, September 12, with a wide range of activities.  Forty-six students showed up to engage in group activities ranging from soccer to dodge ball to ping pong.  In addition, students spent time in the computer lab, working with tutors, and playing board games.  A remodeled foosball table provided competitive entertainment as students joined in the fun.

The Cardinal Zone is a joint effort between Crete Public Schools and the City of Crete to provide quality activities for students in the critical after-school period.  The activities are designed to be productive and attractive to students.  Activity offerings will be recreational in nature but will include sporting activities, recreational activities, and academic activities.  Activity offerings will be adapted throughout the year to meet the needs and interests of participants within the restrictions of facilities and staffing.

Students interested in participating in the Cardinal Zone should return a signed parent permission form available in the Crete Middle School office.  Then simply check in at the Middle School media center for each day's activities.  The Cardinal Zone is open immediately after school until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday each week.  The Cardinal Zone will be closed on Fridays and on no-school or early dismissal days.
