The 8th grade TeamMates recently visited Southeast Community College in Lincoln, touring the many academic choices available, and enjoying lunch on campus afterwards.
“This is oftentimes our mentee’s first campus visit, so it’s always great to start college conversations with them. I look forward to their visiting other campuses as they move on towards graduation,” said TeamMates Program Director Zoe White.

The Crete Middle School Quiz Bowl teams attended the annual ESU #6 meet in Seward on April 4, 2018. The meet was held at the Seward Community Center. There were sixteen teams competing. Each team had three rounds in the morning. The teams answered questions about math, science, geography, literature, and miscellaneous trivia. The competition is set up in a game show format, in which the first person to “buzz in” answers the question. The team with the correct answer is then given a bonus question for a chance to earn additional points.
After the morning competition, the teams were seeded according to total points, as well as wins and losses, for the final rounds. The brackets were set up for a single elimination tournament in the afternoon.
The Crete B team, consisting of Cale B, Will E, Trevor R, Eli F, and Gus B, finished third in the tournament.

This week, the CPS Trust Board awarded $23,767.37 in teacher grants to Crete Public Schools teachers and staff. Grants will be used to pay for items that enhance learning, but are not necessarily covered in the annual school budget.
This year, grants were awarded to purchase new technology, such as electronic Boogie boards (tablets), Chromebooks, ELMO, Echo Dot, Call to Code computer program, and iPads. Grants will also help pay for calculators, Learning Station, Stem Science, projectors, and Strive computer.
In addition, a $3,700 grant was awarded to the school nurses for the purchase of a portable spot vision screening device that will be used to screen all ages of students throughout the school district for vision issues.
Thank you to Crete Trust Board members Jane Fahrnbruch, Ann Teget, Robin Schelstraete, Joe Rohach and Jorge Paredes and all of the school administrators for helping with this week’s presentations.
