7th grade students in Mrs. Wilke's art class are working on a color challenge. Together with a partner, they must experiment with mixing paint colors and create 100 different colors. The trick is that they are only allowed to start with the primary colors: red, yellow, and blue, plus black and white. The students have a sense of freedom with this, yet they are learning how colors work together.
Smithfield Foods has partnered with Crete TeamMates Mentoring Program, once again donating $50,000 to the program, their eighth consecutive year of support. TeamMates and Crete School representatives were present to celebrate this partnership with Smithfield management and mentors.
“Smithfield is honored to continue our commitment to the local community through our long-standing partnership with TeamMates,” said Paul Doremus, general manager of Smithfield’s Crete, Nebraska facility. “We value the mutually beneficial results of this program, as mentoring builds morale, teamwork, and productivity in employees, while helping our youth graduate from high school, pursue post-secondary education, and encouraging them to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.”
“Our community’s youth benefit tremendously from the encouragement and guidance provided by a caring adult during TeamMates mentoring,” said Zoe White, program director of Crete TeamMates. “We are thrilled to see the positive impact made on students by volunteers from the community, who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in the life of a young person. We have welcomed more than 11 Smithfield mentors over the last seven years and look forward to our continued collective efforts to give back to the Crete community.”

Welcome back everyone! Although the summer went by quickly, I hope every person took some time to recharge their batteries. The 2018-19 school year is filled
with high expectations, hard work, and a determined group of students, staff, teachers, administrators, board members and parents.
In September 2017, we began a journey of strategic planning which will be approved in the August 2018 Board meeting. Our new 5-year plan will provide guidance, vision, and a direct path forward for Crete Public Schools. The strategic plan brought together many people in our community to discuss issues facing CPS. We have a great school system and this strategic plan will be one part of our success story in the near future.
Crete Public Schools has a long and widely recognized commitment to all students. As we continue to increase student enrollment numbers, it is imperative to have open, two-way communication on many topics. The most important topic is your child. As administrators, teachers and staff, we work diligently every day to meet the needs of every child. We are here to help your child(ren) attain their educational goals.
Now that you are a part of our CPS family, I encourage you to ask should you have questions. Administrators, teachers, and staff are here to help. Beginning a new grade, a new school building, or a new school system can be exciting and filled with apprehension for parents and students. Please communicate with the school about questions which might arise during the school year. It is important to the success of each student for the school and families to work together. Communication is a crucial component to a successful school. You may find many informational pieces on our website, www.creteschools.com . I can be contacted directly at email@example.com or 402-826-5855.

Lloyd & Trudy Reeves
Alumni Hall of Fame
Crete Public Schools is accepting nominations for the High School Hall of Fame. If you would like to make a nomination, please click on the form below.
Lloyd and Trudy Reeves supported educational and extra-curricular activities in Crete for over a half-century. The Reeves were gifted scholars and athletes. Lloyd graduated from Doane and Trudy was the first woman to graduate from UNL with a Masters in Physical Education.
The Reeves owned and published The Crete News and were avid supporters of Crete Public Schools. The couple attended school events for decades cheering for their children and grandchildren, as well as all of the Cardinals.
Lloyd's recollection of details and accomplishments of athletes, students and alumni was legendary. It was a goal to create a "Hall of Fame" which recognized and honored the outstanding achievements of Crete alumni.
