Start of the Year

It’s often difficult to judge if the cheer is louder from parents or children at the start of a new school year? All three buildings enjoyed an exceptional beginning of school. Enrollment numbers have increased by 54 students when compared to how the previous year ended in May. Official totals will be reported on September 24th. It does appear evident that the kindergarten class of 136 children will be a record for a second consecutive year.
Each of the sites has multiple activities taking place immediately. The high school already held a “Back-to-School” dance. All fall sports for grades 9-12 have begun to practice. Both the middle school and high school buildings conducted Open Houses last week and were very well attended. The elementary will host their welcoming event on the evening of September 2nd. The many activities around the district also gave a preview of traffic around the expanded middle school. First reports and observation appear to demonstrate traffic moving as smoothly as can be expected.
The start of school was also marked by typically hot Nebraska weather. All of the buildings are air-conditioned. The shortened first two days of school help students transition into a routine as well as assist staff with opportunities to use the afternoon for scheduling and class preparations. The high school A.C. compressor did break down the Monday prior to the start of classes. A second compressor has helped the building limp along until the district insurance carrier can determine if we will receive any reimbursement.
Once again, I would like to encourage parents and patrons to contact myself or any other staff members if we can be of service to you. It is a privilege to work in such an outstanding community.
