Fourth graders in the CCLC after school program recently met with the Mayor of Crete, Tom Crisman. The mayor reviewed what his job responsibilities were and answered many questions the students had. These students are participating in a Civic Engagement 4-H project being taught by four members of the Crete Youth In Governance.
The Civic Engagement project is designed to help participants learn how to be a better citizen. They are learning about symbols of our government, roles of government officials, what it takes to become a naturalized citizen of the US, and they will plan a community service learning project to implement at the completion of the project. Members leading the project include: Emily M., Francisco P., Matt S., and UNL Extension Educator, Leanne Manning. This project is funded in part by a Rural Youth Development Grant supported by the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, under Agreement No. 2005-45201-03332, Award #2008-45201-04715, administered by National 4-H Council through an EYSC, Youth In Governance grant project.
