100 Days of Kindergarten

by Kindergarten Team

February 24, 2010

On Friday, January, 29th, 2010, the seven sections of Kindergarten celebrated the 100th day of school.  Each Kindergarten classroom begins counting each day starting with the very first day of school.  This teaches our Kindergartens many valuable skills such as, counting by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s.  It also helps students to realize how large the number 100 really is.

The week leading up to the 100th day of school was filled with “100 activities.”  Some Kindergarten classrooms made t-shirts with 100 dots or 100 tally marks.  These t-shirts were then worn on the 100th day of school as part of the celebration.  Each of the 130 Kindergarteners brought their own 100 collection.  This could be anything that students wanted to bring.  Some collections were made up of cheerios, candy, gum, marshmallows, popsicle sticks, and many other creative ideas.  We then spent time counting our collections and putting them in groups of 10.  In the afternoon, we had a “100 parade.”  Each Kindergarten classroom got to travel to other classrooms to look at their 100 day collections.

Some of our other activities for the celebration included: a 100 fruit loop necklace, 100 tally mark crown, snack made with 100 things, creating designs with 100 pennies, learning the value of 100 dollars.  Our 100th day ended with a celebration assembly lead by Mr. Schroder.  During the Kindergarten assembly, Mr. Schroder drew random names for t-shirts donated by the Crete Medical Center.  This was a great way to end our 100th day celebration.  We now know how big the number 100 really is!!!
