4th Grade Box Social

by Jenn Uher

February 24, 2010

Fourth graders at Crete Elementary celebrated Valentine’s Day with a box social on February 12.  This was the eighteenth year for the annual event sponsored by teachers Faith Keller, Kelly Kalkwarf, Debbie Prokop, Larry Shestak and Jenn Uher.  Half of the fourth grade students brought lunches for two people in decorated boxes to be purchased by student and teacher buyers.  Cleverly designed boxes included a covered wagon, an aquarium, an I-pod touch, Disney cruise ship, hot air balloon, robot, farm scene, and many more beautiful creations.  Money collected will be used to purchase a tree to be planted on Arbor Day.

The box social event kicks off a busy season for fourth graders studying Nebraska.  Upcoming events include Nebraska’s birthday March 1, a field trip to Lincoln March 11 and Pioneer Day on May 7th.
