TeamMates Mentoring Program

Make a Difference - Become a Mentor

Who are we? Tom and Nancy Osborne founded the TeamMates Mentoring Program in 1991 in an effort to provide support and encouragement in school aged youth. The goal of the program is to see youth graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. To reach this goal, youth meet one hour per week with a caring adult who serves as a mentor. Mentors are volunteers from the community who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in the life of a young person by providing support, friendship and a positive example. Mentors want to help young people reach their full potential.

Why should I get involved? Because young people need positive, successful adult role models. Because young people need guidance in setting and achieving goals. Because a relationship works two ways; you stand to gain from the insights of young people, and helping them succeed is a great source of satisfaction.

How much time will it take? One Hour a Week. Crete TeamMates asks that you make a commitment of meeting with your student for one hour a week in a school setting, with the goal of following your student through high school graduation.

What do I do during mentor time? Spend time talking and listening. Take some time to have a little fun like playing a game. Share a hobby, work on a project. Help your mentee with school work, develop a resume or check out colleges on the net.

What are the benefits? Youth benefit by receiving encouragement and guidance from a caring adult. Mentoring builds morale, teamwork and productivity in employees.

Who are mentors? Members of service organizations, local businesses, media, civic groups, faith based organizations, government agencies, retirees, professional associations. Those willing to make the one hour difference!
