SOME COLLEGE TIPS - applications, scholarships, financial aid:
*If you haven't visited your colleges of interest yet, make those visits soon.
College visit permission forms must be completed before the visits
(requires parent and teacher signatures). Students must be passing all
classes to be excused for visits during the school day.
*College-bound seniors need to begin making application to colleges soon to avoid missing out on scholarship opportunities. I'ts OK to apply to more than one college.
*Students can apply for Federal Financial Aid after January 1. Parents are
encouraged to complete income taxes early since this information is needed to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
---The one thing you can and should do right away to get ready to complete the FAFSA is to go to the website and establish a pin number. (www.fafsa.ed.gov)
---You can also apply at this website on line and get help for completing the FAFSA
Many of our families have found it extremely helpful to go to the Education Quest Center in Lincoln when completing the FAFSA. Parents can bring tax returns and they will assist in applying on line. There is no charge for this service (check our www.educationquest.org or telephone 800-666-3721).
*DON'T MISS OUT ON SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES!!! Scholarships are posted on the school web site under High School>Career Center>Scholarships and on the scholarship board in the Career Center.
---Each senior will received the local scholarship application packet in early March which will be due back to the Career Center in early April. (Dates announced later)
To write the scholarship essay, students need to sign up in the Career Center prior to the writing date. The essay writing competition will take place in early April - probably during periods 6 & 7. Deadline dates and times will be posted as soon as they are known.
