by Valorie Foy

January 05, 2009

The Nebraska Department of Education released the federal No Child Left Behind assessment results and the State of the Schools report card.  Crete Schools met all requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind legislation.  The Nebraska State of the Schools report card indicates that Crete students perform most often above the state average.

The state achievement goals for NCLB, which are set by the Nebraska Department of Education, increase every three years until 2013-2014, when the Federal requirement sets the proficiency rate at 100%.

Crete students continue to score well on the STARS assessments, which are locally developed assessments used to measure academic progress in reading and math at grades 4, 8, and 11.  In addition, science was assessed at grades 5, 8, and 11 and included on the report card for the first time.

Teachers at CPS use the STARS scores in conjunction with information from norm-referenced tests, classroom performance, and other student assessments in order to improve curriculum, instruction, and academic achievement and to address areas for improvement.

The Nebraska Department of Education does not set STARS goals in the same way that NCLB goals are required, but does release the state averages.  Crete students outpaced the state averages in a majority of the categories.

The percents of students proficient for the State of Nebraska and for Crete Public Schools in reading, math, and science are given in the charts below.
