Start of Classes

Start of Classes

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade are completing their first full week of school.  The calendar consists of 177 days of classes and actually began with two half-day sessions last Thursday.  Crete has generally started during the middle of August so the semester ends at the winter break and school is finished prior to Memorial Day.

The new school year begins with several changes across the district.  Additional sections of both kindergarten and 1st grade will assist in keeping the class sizes below 20 students.  These two primary grades will now have six teachers each.   The middle school received one additional resource teacher.  The high school and middle school reorganized assignments to create additional sections of classes at the 9-12 building.  The two buildings will also be sharing an assistant principal as a full-time activities director was hired.

The elementary site now has a fully installed portable building complete with bathrooms.  This structure contains two classrooms and will serve the enrichment program and two sections of preschool.  The middle school has an identical size portable without bathrooms.  Health classes and services for English language learners will be provided within this space.

Each of the three school sites will have multiple opportunities for patrons to visit.  Open houses have already taken place at the middle school, high school and kindergarten locations.  The elementary will be promoting a September 4th invitation for remaining grade levels.  Events of all sorts will continue to encourage families to visit the school throughout the year.  I sincerely hope all of you will take the opportunity to visit as well as get actively involved with the education of students in our communities.
