Dear Parents,

I am very excited and honored to be your student’s science teacher this year.  We will be on a journey of discovery, and will be digging into the topics of technology, scientists, matter, forces, Earth, and space.  In order to do this “digging,” we will use many different “tools” including labs, lectures, web quests and other projects.  My goal is not only that your daughter or son learns content but that s/he also learns how to learn and how to problem solve.

Early next week, I will be talking with the Science 8 students about classroom expectations and my grading policy.  Students will be bringing home this information for their parents.  Also, you will be able to read these documents on my web page that can be accessed through the Crete Schools website (www.creteschools.com). If you have any questions or concerns about expectations or policies, please email (barbb@creteschools.org) or call (826-5844).

To this letter I have attached a brief description of Science 8 topics and also a list of supplies that will help your student be successful in science.  Again, please review these and let me know if you have questions.

Monday will be my 43rd first day of school.  (No, I haven’t been teaching that long!)  I am happy to say that I am just as excited this 43rd time as I was my first day of kindergarten.  Luckily, I am not as scared, though!  I look forward to a great year and to getting acquainted with and helping your student learn more about science.

Sincerely,

Barbara J. Banks
