Fine Arts Night

by Kelli Wilke

May 12, 2008

On the evening of May 5th, 2008, Crete Middle School was a hoppin’ place.  The teachers and staff celebrated our students’ successes by giving them a “Night to Shine.”  The evening began at 6:00 p.m. with the opening of the 3rd Annual Fine Arts Night Gallery in the middle school gym.  Parents, kids, and community members were led in by arrows and signs on the pathways.  The gym was covered in hundreds of pieces of artwork from classes that ranged from 6th grade Math class to 8th grade Health class, to 7th grade Social Studies class, and much more.

ELL students and teachers prepared for hours on Cinco de Mayo decorations and traditional dancing, some of Mrs. Anderson’s band students performed solos and ensembles, there were videos, sculptures, paintings, poems, and posters made by students throughout the entire year.  Each student that takes an Art class had a piece of his/her choice included in the show…even as far back as 1st quarter!  We start preparing for this night during the first few months of school.  It takes a lot of hard work and dedication but it’s very important to our community and our school that we are able to highlight student success in the area of Fine Arts and showcase what these kids create through their own imaginations.

The middle school Art Club worked many hours in preparation, but they saw their hard work pay off when over 350 people visited and walked through the gallery.  Time Warner Cable also donated the food that was being served by the Art Club members, so we want to thank them for their contribution.  We also want to thank everyone that attended and showed their support for the Arts in Education.  We can’t do it without you!
