A very important milestone in every young Americans life is their high school graduation. The culmination of years of study and hard work are a foundation for a future. Commencement exercises are an important tradition which recognizes the efforts of graduates as well as the support provided by family members.
The district will continue conducting graduation exercises at Fuhrer Field House, on the Doane campus. The actual ceremony begins at 3:00 p.m. this Saturday, May 10th, and normally lasts one hour. Graduates are given the choice of participating in commencement and it isn’t unusual for some seniors to decline the offer. The ceremony is intended to be conducted in a manner to reflect the honor of the accomplishment.
Every group of seniors tends to develop an identity and the Class of 2008 has been exceptional in many ways. Approximately 20 students are receiving the equivalent of full-ride scholarships for their academic, fine arts and athletic prowess. Approximately 90% of the graduates will continue their education and/or enter service to the military. The Crete Public Schools Trust Fund distributed approximately $40,000 worth of scholarships to various members of the class. These groups of students were also involved with a wide variety of community activities such as the Crete Cares Program, Blood Drives, C-Pals and political activism, i.e. Democratic Caucus and registering for the Republican Primary. The surrounding school community should be very proud of these young graduates. Please feel encouraged to offer your congratulations this week.
