Second Graders Deliver the Mail

The second grade students were very busy during the month of February and the first week of March. They were participating in the United States Postal Office’s Wee Deliver program. The students learned the five parts of a friendly letter, wrote approximately 6000 letters to friends, teachers, and classmates, and each classroom was able to manage the “Post
Office” for one week. While running the post office, students were able to perform real post office jobs such as: facers, cancellers, nixie clerks, sorters, mail carriers, and postmasters. Parents also participated by writing letters to their children during the five weeks. The program ended with a tour of the Crete Post Office. Words can not describe the look on a student’s face when the mail carrier handed them a letter or two.
