Sophomore Information

Attend school!  Absences will affect your learning and grades.  While students  should not go to school if they are sick, no one feels 100% every single day and many times a student will feel better once they get to school and start interacting with their peers.

Keep striving to get the best grades possible.   Use a planner to keep track of your assignments and homework.  Complete and turn in assignments to teachers when they are due --- not late!  Talk to your teacher to find out what you need to do in class to be successful.  Seeking help from your teacher shows them you care about the class.

Participate in school activities, clubs, and sports

Make friends and go out of your way to be friendly to everyone.

Remember your grade record (transcript) and attendance will follow you long past high school, whether it's for college admission, scholarships, or job applications.

Talk to your parents!  They are your supporters . . . and were sophomores too once upon a time.

Check out the Career Center.  It holds MUCH information on colleges, careers, scholarships, and more.  You are welcome to stop in the Career Center any time.

Tips for Parents of Sophomores

Ask your student about their homework.  Do they have a daily planner or do they need one?  If they have a planner, are they using it?

Students study best without distractions such as TV's, headphones, stereos, and telephones.

Students should spend at least a short time reading every single day -- whether they have homework or not.

  1. Talk to your student every day!  Even if it's only for a few minutes to touch base.
  2. Know who your students friends are and who they're hanging with.  Get acquainted with the parents and communicate with them.
  1. Talk to your student about their future career plans
  1. Feel free to contact one of the school counselors via telephone/voice mail, email, or by appointment.  Crete High has two counselors, Jeanne Stec and Karen Buckfinck.  Ms. Buckfinck is the bilingual counselor and is fluent in Spanish.
  1. Plan to attend Parent/Teacher Conferences in the spring and fall.  It will help keep you informed and show your student you care about them.
  1. Check the CHS website regularly and stay updated with school events!
