Crete TeamMates Chapter

August 14, 2006

What is TeamMates?

TeamMates is a school-based program that matches adult community members with students from high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools

TeamMates is a mentoring program founded by former University of Nebraska football coach and current state legislator Tom Osborne

What kind of students benefit from TeamMates at Crete?

TeamMates mentees come from a variety of situations and environments.

TeamMates mentees are students who would benefit from a relationship with a caring adult.

TeamMates mentees currently range in age from fifth grade through tenth grade.

What is the role of the adult in TeamMates?

The adult mentor volunteers approximately one hour of his or her time once a week to meet with his or her mentee.

The adult connects with the mentee through activities like crafts, sports, or other hobbies.

The adult is a committed, consistent aspect of the mentees life.

The adult helps to maintain the relationship as the mentee moves through each grade level.

The adult guides the mentee to set appropriate goals and make responsible decisions academically and socially.

How does Crete Public Schools incorporate the TeamMates program?

There are currently 33 matches between junior high and high school aged students and their mentors.

There are 10 matches between elementary students and their mentors.

New matches are made at the beginning of every school year as well as through out the school year.

Mentors and mentees participate in community service projects including an upcoming project that will grow and plant flowers at Tuxedo Park.

Mentors and mentees participate in group projects like an annual Christmas party and a year end event.

How can I become involved in the Crete TeamMates program?
